I am a night owl still trying to become an early bird, which is hard to do. I first heard about HelloMornings a few years ago on WBGL Radio. I recently became a co-leader of a HelloMornings Facebook group.
What does your morning look like?
I didn’t have a set wake-up time in this winter, but in the warmer weather, I go to bed about 8:00 pm and get up about 4:30 am. I was getting up early in the warmer weather and walking and then do Bible study. But in cold weather it’s comfy cozy in my jammies for my HelloMornings time. I have breakfast before – usually scrambled eggs on whole grain bread, and coffee with flavored creamer (love International Delight’s Hershey’s Chocolate Caramel). I need to have the same routine all week, but I sometimes find myself sleeping in on the weekends.
What does your HelloMornings time look like?
I joined HelloMornings a few years ago. Our Facebook group is HMC-Empty Nesters. I became a co-leader of the group with Session 2 “Love Like Him”. My Bible, the Reading Plan, the Bible Study book, cross reference various Bible translations and use Bible concordances, and a cup of coffee are the items I have for my HelloMornings time. I buy a colorful tablet to use as my journal. I listen to WGBL Radio. Lately I’ve enjoyed Joey + Rory new CD “Hymns”. I started walking last Spring which was great because it was helping to develop a set routine. When cold weather hits, I have trouble staying motivated. Hoping to get back to walking soon. How my HelloMornings has evolved since I started: It is most important for me to serve God faithfully and have a close relationship with Christ. I glorify God by my actions, thoughts, and words, so my role as his daughter is most important to me, and my other roles are to emanate from that one. I feel like I don’t always put the “important” first, and if I did everything would run more smoothly. Not saying life would be easy, perfect, or pain-free. A God-focused life where I depend on him instead of trying to do it on my own. I need to focus on building a closer relationship with God by reading the Bible and doing my HelloMornings Bible Study.
What are some words of wisdom you have for our HelloMornings community?
If I miss a day, it was discouraging, but I just start anew the next day. Being an early riser is hard, still working on that one. Another challenge is that I can also get distracted with things on Facebook. My advice to someone starting out with a morning routine is to take baby steps when starting. It won’t happen overnight. The transition to a morning person is never easy. I struggle with an early schedule because sometimes my husband works late and long hours. Remember, we are all in different seasons of our lives. What works for me may not work for you or your friends. It is important to set aside a time for God.
