I am wife to my high school sweetheart, mother to 4 miracles, one of which has cystic fibrosis (a fatal lung disease). I am the worship leader at my church. I am a stay-at-home mom, yet have many hats. Our family lives in Ketchikan, Alaska. I am daily learning what it means to be free and covered by crazy, undeserved grace! I am a long-distance runner and am training for my third half marathon this year!!!
What does your morning look like?
I wake up at 4:50 a.m. and go to bed at 10 p.m. I roll out of bed and head straight to the gym (I do my study the night before since I lead a group with some early risers). I like C.O.F.F.E.E with cream! For the weekends, with four kids and their activities, on top of my training cause a lot of chaos, but it’s organized chaos!
What does your HelloMornings time look like?
This coming February makes 2 years of HelloMornings – crazy! I use Facebook. NLT Study Bible, AMP Bible, Blue Letter Bible, Pandora (with my fave worship stations), highlighter and awareness of the Holy Spirit are parts of my HelloMornings routine. My favorite pens are my church logo pens! I listen to Bethel Music, Elevation Worship, and Kari Jobe during my morning time. I can’t get enough of “Let Us Adore Him” by Elevation Worship this Advent season. Some tools for my planning time are my wall calendar and iPhone alarms.
Exercise is part of my routine. While I train, I am free of commitments and demands by my busy family, and I zone out and just commune with God (listen to Christian rap, they are mini sermons) while I pound out miles!
If I know I have late evening plans, I put the baby to nap and let them watch TV or color while I study away. They all know when I am doing my “study”. Sometimes they just sit next to me quietly and read.
Since I started HelloMornings, my life has changed. Restoration in a relationship, deeper awareness of God’s love for me, friends joining because they have seen something different in me. Most of all, a heart change that is beginning to reflect someone who knows they are a foreigner in this land.
What are some words of wisdom you have for our HelloMornings community?
Yes, in the beginning it drove me nuts to miss a morning. I am a rule-follower. Then, I started realizing I needed God to help me prioritize my time. So I have to ask him to help me get what needs to get done. But some days life happens and I have learned he knows my heart and knows I want to be sitting with him, listening to his truths.
The hardest part of HelloMornings for me is trusting that when I am open about a big struggle I am not being judged.
My advice for someone just starting out with a morning routine: You get what you put in. If you don’t participate, it is hard to connect and develop “relationships” and accountability. Try to participate in the daily prompts, when the walls come down, then you can start to dig deep!
I was blessed with a grace-filled group. My leader didn’t expect us to be a.m. posters, so as a busy mom who had her 4th baby during a session it was nice to know I could post when life let me. That is how I run my group currently. We need a hellomidmorning group, lol!
