Coffee Time With Jesus

Nov 17, 2025

This post is by Shaina Weisgerber.

I love getting coffee with my best friend. We usually get together once a week or at least every couple of weeks. Whether we get together at our local coffee shop or at one of our houses, we sit, we visit, listen to each other’s life updates and just enjoy each other’s company. We always leave feeling encouraged and our hearts uplifted.

Lauren and I lived twelve hours apart for more than ten years. During those years our coffee dates were few and far between. We found ways to stay in touch, like sending voice memos, texting and seeing each other’s posts on social media, but nothing compares to meeting in person. Listening to a twenty minute voice message is so nice when that is what I had. I could hear how her kids were doing, how she was doing in her spiritual walk, what she was cooking that week, how her marriage was going, what shows she was watching that week and ways I could support her and pray for her. It worked, it was sufficient and we kept our friendship functioning, but when she would come back home to visit family we would get a real time coffee date and we would be together in person. We would get that in person time again and it just hit differently.

When I think of my prayer life, I think about how many times I function on sending audios to the Lord. I will send bits and pieces here and there, every day even, to God. He hears about my day, what my needs are, my grocery list of wants, complaints, issues, needs and troubles. He knows where I’m struggling and what I wished was different. It is sufficient and it works, but when I really sit with him, listen to him, spend time in person with him is when our relationship truly blossoms and that is when I truly get filled up to overflowing.

So how do we “get coffee” with Jesus? What does that tangibly look like? My friend Connie has created a really unique tool that I think will help you have this special time with Jesus that will take your prayer and worship time with Jesus to new levels!

The Battle Book Project was created out of Connie’s need for a structured time with the Lord. Her prayer life was very scattered and shallow. She desired to truly spend time with Jesus, listen to him, measure her growth and visually see answers to her prayers and longings. I’ll add a link to her website at the end of this blog so you can see her Battle Books and even order one for yourself.

What Connie helps you discover are a few ways of focusing your prayer and worship time so that you don’t get so distracted and end up sitting there reeling on the same few sentences, or going for your phone every few minutes.

Worship, Confession, Listening, Intercession.

Each of these sections helps guide you in time with Jesus. You begin in worship, focusing your heart and mind on lifting up the name of God. Confession allows us to come clean before the Lord, clear our mind, unload our struggles, sins, problems, confessing our pride and hang ups before we even begin to ask a thing. Listening then allows us to sit and be quiet, pausing and giving the Lord a chance to speak to our hearts and minds. We give pause. We stop and truly let the Lord speak into our hearts and minds what only He can. Then we intercede on our own behalf and on behalf of others in our life. We can lay at his feet our own needs as well as the needs of our family, friends, neighbors and world.

I hope that as you consider worship and prayer this month you will check out this amazing resource to help revitalize your relationship with Christ! Sometimes, like with any relationship, we have to find ways to stay healthy. We must continue to refresh our approach and renew our focus on prayer and worship.

If you find yourself saying the same couple of sentences every time you sit down to pray, I encourage you to look into this resource today! If you have any questions or would like some help getting started, reach out to me! I would love to visit with you about how The Battle Book project has revitalized my walk with Christ and has been a huge support in so many seasons of my life!
