Why Move Time? move time Mar 20, 2023

This post is by Joanne Wu.

Move Time is hard for me to write about because I’m still in the cyclical three steps forward, two steps back pattern of making this a consistent daily routine.  It’s hard not to feel hypocritical writing about a rhythm I’ve been well intentioned to fit into my daily life for the last four years, but yet haven’t “succeeded” in the way I had imagined.  However, I’m hoping that sharing my journey with Move Time will inspire another person who also feels frustrated with ...

Slow Birding move time Mar 13, 2023

This post is by Deb Alexander.

I was born on my grandfather’s 54th birthday. I wasn’t able to get to know him very well—he died when I was very young—but I remember that he loved birds. He placed bird feeders all over his property in New Hampshire, and he and my grandmother even petitioned the city to rename their street to one that included the name of his favorite bird. Soon, that new sign replaced the old one at the bottom of the hill leading up to their home.

Because we lived a few hours ...

When Exercise Is Hard move time Mar 06, 2023

This post is by Tami Rodriguez.

We all know how important exercise is. Everyday there’s a new article telling us why we should lift weights for stronger bones, get some cardio for a healthy heart and lungs, get NEAT time (Non-exercise activity thermogenesis) because even if you do ALL that exercise, if you sit the rest of the day that’s bad too. It seems the internet is full of advice and… it all contradicts itself. But, even though one place may say to exercise x amount and another y, the one ...

Move Time Challenge Kit Review move time Jun 06, 2022

This post is by Patty Lewis.

Searching for some familiar, yet challenging help, I came across the Move Time Challenge Kit on Hello Mornings Academy.  Unsure if I would eventually commit to it, but knowing I needed to make some choice to help me set a new goal, I left it open on my laptop.  Within a few days I had gotten an email invitation to write for the blog.  Topic:  review a challenge kit from the Hello Mornings Academy.  Yes!  Lord!  Thank You for confirming this for me and making it e...

We Are All Like Eve…… body image move time May 30, 2022

This post is by Briane Kearns.

For a few years I sold a line of women’s clothing from my home. It was a unique company that created various styles and then made them available in a variety of fabrics.

I am a curvy girl. There are no tall, thin body types swimming in my gene pool. In an era where the media showed rail thin, flat chested (probably undernourished) women’s bodies, I lived in constant self consciousness and dissatisfaction with my body.

And, honestly, I thought that I was alone...

MOVE TIME is all about MINDSET! move time May 02, 2022

This post is by Kem Roper.

In my younger years, my motivation for exercise came from a place of weakness, not strength. I lacked self-esteem, social savvy, and the physical attributes that captured boys’ attention. So, working out—especially weight training—was my attempt to re-shape my body. Unfortunately, it didn’t re-shape my mind. I obsessed over the super-toned models on the cover of fitness magazines and tried to be them. Yet, no matter how fit I got, I never quite fit the mold.

I am ...

When You Need a Little Less move time Aug 02, 2021

This post is by Tami Rodriguez.

I was an athlete as a kid. Movement always had a purpose...to win!! We trained to be faster, stronger and more flexible so we could excel against other teams and WIN. Do you remember the dread of running “suicides” in the gym? I do.

This mindset of, “Push yourself harder! Don’t rest! Don’t quit!” has a time and place, but I’ve learned an interesting thing as a Mom, this type of mindset and intense training can also exhaust us!

I have consistently exercise...

The Skin You Are In move time Apr 26, 2021

Move.

That one word has made me feel like a failure more times in the last decade than I can count. That goal- the one of moving my body- has been a place of great frustration. I hit a good stride and make actual progress. Then, life gets in the way. It is no secret that I am physically broken. I am the bearer of a genetic disorder that has spent the last 17 years in “full send” mode and tried to take me out in increasingly creative ways. With the pandemic, 2020...

Move Time: An Act of Sacrificial Worship move time Apr 12, 2021

This is post by Jen Stanbro.

A couple of months ago, I was sitting next to my mom on the couch in my screened-in patio, on a beautiful 75 degree day in February. This was new to me.  I grew up in Western New York (think lake-effect snow) and then lived in Wisconsin for six years (think seven degrees with gale-force winds). This was my first February in North Carolina and it didn’t feel like February to me at all. As I sat with my feet on the coffee table, enjoying the warm, gentle breeze, I bre...

Moving Towards Freedom move time Jan 25, 2021

This post is by Jill Miller.

I was an All-American athlete in high school, with a full ride to college in swimming. I worked out a minimum of 4 hours a day, both morning and night for years and years and years. You could say exercise and moving my body was a part of my DNA. And then I got to college.

Leaving swimming behind within my first year, I vowed to never get up before 6am and to never, ever workout again. It didn’t take long for me to realize that maintaining my athletic figure while ...

Don’t Let the Best Be the Enemy of the Good move time Jan 18, 2021

This post is by Danielle Smith.

For a lot of us, each New Year brings new fitness goals. A month-long spree of potluck gatherings and cookie bakes is followed by January vows to tone up, trim down, and “Eat Clean Bro.”

2021 certainly presents a new year unlike any I can remember, just like our holiday get-togethers a few weeks ago looked very different from years past. The guest lists were smaller and the venues closer to home; quite literally closer to home, as in very much inside the same h...

Let God’s Grace Reign (in Move Time) move time Jan 11, 2021

Movement.

This word is a challenge for many, especially for those like myself, who struggle to do simple tasks like combing my hair, putting on a pair of socks, or wrestling with repetitive movements that cause, in one short moment, an abrupt set of sleepless nights; discomfort reaching capacity over and over again. Being told to move more is not only uncomfortable, it can be downright dreadful in the heart, mind, and body for one who struggles with any type of barr...
