Tip #1: Figure Out Your Why (Mornings Tips For The Night Owl)

Before we dive into the nitty gritty of how to get out of bed when that alarm goes off, we need to take a step back and look at our why.

Why say hello to an earlier morning?

HelloMornings is not a competition to see who can get out of bed the earliest. It is also not a one-size-fits all plan.

You must figure out what will drive you to get out of bed. What is your motivation for change? Is this just a box to check off, or is there more to it than that?

My "why" is simple, I want to glorify God with my moments.

History proves that if I don't wake up before my kids, the day gets away from me quickly. From the warmth of my comfy sheets I say that I will study the Bible during naptime or later in the evening, but it rarely happens. Distractions, duties and deadlines seem to scream louder later in the day, and I forget about the intentions I had in that sleepy-headed moment.

When I am too tired to meet my kids' abundant energy in the morning, it is usually not pretty. But on the mornings I am up before them, the kids come down to find me in my morning chair, and I am able to greet them with kind words, good-morning kisses, and a few moments of snuggles.

There are numerous reasons why getting up early is better for me and my family, but here's the bottom line: my early mornings set me up to better glorify God with the rest of my day.

This doesn't mean I can't have a good day if I am not up by 6am, nor that the days I rise early are all God-glorifying days. I am simply starting out with a better trajectory for my day, one which has proven to enable me to choose better in the moments that follow.
