Habits: Hard to Break, Hard to Make habits May 19, 2025

This post is by Patty Lewis.

Songs, books and poems have been written echoing the sentiment of how hard habits are to break.  Habits are also hard to make.

As I’m writing this, I’m considering some content our family has been consuming for quite some time and how it may not be healthy in the amounts we are taking it in.  I’ve been wondering about it for a while.  This week, being the week before Easter, I’m considering significantly lessening how much of it I voluntarily choose to turn on for...

Growing Your Morning Routine Outside of the Morning habits routine May 12, 2025

This post is by Sarah Johnson.

I really didn’t want one more person telling me my life would be so much better if I rose an hour and a half or more before my kids to fit in prayer, Bible study, other reading, exercise, a shower, et cetera, et cetera.

Would it be glorious to get all that done first thing and with no children calling my name every five minutes? Yes! But if I wanted to get up an hour and a half before my kids, I would have to wake up somewhere between 3:30 and 4:30.

Habit Help habits May 08, 2023

This post is by Shaina Weisgerber.

Habits are the things that make our life. Good habits and bad habits alike. Whatever we allow to happen in our life on a consistent basis is what we are being made of. Think about it; day in and day out we make decisions that either fill us or deplete us. We over work or we stay sedentary. We over eat or we eat healthy. We consume too much media and technology or we read books, get outside and spend time with others in person.  Whether you struggle with bit...

The Habit is the Goal habit building habits Aug 29, 2022

This post is by Jen Stanbro.

I’ve always enjoyed goal setting. I think I get a shot of dopamine when I check boxes off the old list. It feels good. But my goals today look pretty different from my goals past.

I used to create destination style goals, like, “by this time, I will have accomplished this thing.” To be honest, I rarely got there. And if I didn’t, then all the work I’d done along the way was worthless because that destination was all that mattered. I believe my biggest problem w...

Not So Simple habits Aug 22, 2022

This post is by Jen Shultz.

Habit. That one word has been so daunting for me in the last decade. The world has been chaotic. My life, specifically my health, has been chaotic. How is one supposed to build and attempt to evolve in a hurricane? A better question is why would we not? When those winds of change provide even a partially clean slate, let's pounce on that opportunity to rebuild into better versions of ourselves. Sounds simple enough, right?

Obviously, when faced with a challenge I...

The Nature of Habits habit building habits Jun 13, 2022

This post is by Courtney Cohen.

Habits are funny things – full of potential to shape our life’s course, yet often viewed as deplorable doldrums we must endure to “adult” successfully. But Scripture overflows with positive and purposeful repetition which is anything but dull – it’s vibrant with life and is expressive of our worship of God. Sabbath, feasts, festivals, prayers, gathering with other believers – all habits that serve us well.

While who we are is defined by God alone, what we do...

When You’ve Fallen Off the Habit Wagon habits resolutions Feb 07, 2022

This post is by Cindy Chen.

Welcome to February, where New Year's resolutions fizzle out and die. I struggle to keep a routine, set goals, or take steps consistently enough to build new good habits. But setting goals and building habits are vital for living a healthy, fruitful life. So how do you pick yourself up when you’ve fallen off the habit wagon?

First, examine the resolution.

Was it the right thing to add to your life?

Evaluate whether the routine you chose to establish is approp...
