Vision and Goal Setting in Faith

Feb 14, 2022

This post is by Patty Lewis.

I’m still considering my goals for this year.  Slowly, like a crock pot and not at all like a pressure cooker.  Maybe even more like a stove top Dutch oven simmering.  I need some time to process through a few things from last year and navigate all the other things we are dealing with daily.   So many things I never could have envisioned in the recent past have become our reality.

When thinking about having a vision and goal setting, I like to take my time and be sure of what I decide on.  It must have enduring value and it must be attainable with an edge of challenge, but not too much.  It's well worth my taking extra time into a new year to consider what my goals will look like and cast my vision for what I believe God is calling me to, calling my family to this year.

I’m listening for His clear direction.  While I wait upon Him, I’m living every day as fully as I can.  Thinking about it all and asking the same questions I’ve asked myself for years:

Who or what is getting my best time and energy?

I’ve been asking this question since my son was about 4 years old.  He will be 15 years old next month.  The reason I do this is to put life into perspective, to refocus.  Over and over again.  It is a challenge to myself to reevaluate all the decisions I’m making.  Where am I spending my time?   Why am I doing this or that?  What is the fruit coming out of what I am doing?  Am I giving the best of me to someone other than my husband and son?  Who or what is getting the best time I have to spend?  Who or what is getting my best energy?  Am I putting The Lord first and then my boys?  Every day?  During each day?  At the end of the days?

I’m asking the hard questions because these are my priorities and I desire for my life to reflect that in word and in deed.  To live it out.  Walk it out.

My vision and my goals are cast and set inside this frame.  I will ask myself these questions and hold myself accountable.  I’m looking to The One Who will direct my steps and I’m investing in my boys, the eternal treasures I wish to store up in Heaven.

May you also be willing to ask yourself some of the harder questions and find yourself willing to take time in deciding what your 2022 will look like, what goals you will strive to achieve and may God and your people be first.  May you be blessed in your endeavors and may The Lord be glorified!!

Who or what is getting your best time and energy?

I am the vine. You are the branches. If you remain in me, and I in you, you will bear much fruit. Apart from me, you can do nothing. John 15.5

A man's heart devised his way, but the LORD directed his steps. Proverbs 16.9
